It started in December 2022, when my grandmother gained her wings. 🪽
Being December, the main floral arrangement at her funeral was made with Christmas greenery. & at the end of the service, when all the flowers had been picked away (to be dried & propagated), we weren’t sure what to do with the rest. Knowing it couldn’t be left there like that, I agreed to take it in.
At first, I didn’t know what to do.. Then it hit me: “I can make a wreath for her!“

Her house was her pride and joy, and decorating for Christmas was something she’d been working on. Crafting runs deep in our family – beginning with her mom, who made and owned a ceramic shop.
Proud of the gift passed down to me, I ran to Pinterest for inspiration, then straight to Hobby Lobby, and got to work. Slipping into a flow state I felt closer to her, and further from my grief.
Now & as with any arrangement, it wasn’t about making something perfect; just creating what felt right for her front door.
After a few days (& a house full of cuttings later), I’d made three wreaths.. each beautiful in their own way, but this one felt like her and it hung till Spring.
& just like that, a tradition was born!
Every year since, I’ve learned and made wreaths from natural garland. Using mixes I find at Trader Joe’s or my local nursery. It’s become a ritual of remembrance and an act of self-care since.

2025 now & I’ve decided it was time to share that story, and this craft, in hopes of keeping the tradition alive in more homes than just mine. So, if you’d like, I’d love to make a personalized one for you this holiday season. Order now @ Etsy – AshleyLaneLife.
